(March 30, 2026) Canadian songwriter Matthew Holtby has shared intimate new EP ‘Yesterday’.

Out now, the EP finds the musician working in a minimalist fashion, with the arrangements being left unadorned. Recorded live, these off-the-floor tracks allow Matthew Holtby to flex, pouring his every being into those performances.

Three songs of pure emotion, he tracked the initial sessions at home, assisted by a few friends and local artists in the form of a baby grand piano (Natalie Hughes), violin (Victoria Yeh), pedal steel (Andrew Ivens), mandolin and additional acoustic guitar (Ira Quinsey).

The songwriter recalls:

“I had the house to myself one evening, and decided to put up a couple of mics and just perform a handful of songs for the cats. After combing through the recordings, I thought they were a real raw representation of what I’m doing live lately, and decided to move one step further with them. I reached out to some friends who are exceptional at what they do, and this is the result.”

In addition to the release, Matthew Holtby has also shared the warm, nostalgic video for ‘Yesterday’. Pieced together from a collection of Super 8 home movies from Holtby’s own family archive, it features a selection of family members – Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles and his own Father at the age of 8 – smiling for the camera.

Tune in now.
